CLIMAX BLUES BAND STORY - A VIEW FROM A FAN
In the three decades I have followed Climax Blues Band the one word that I would say has been most used when I have spoken to fans of blues music is ‘quality’. The name has been associated with producing high quality music over the years, through changes of style and changes of line-up; the thread has carried through four decades.
The last album Climax Blues Band recorded with Colin Cooper before his tragic death in 2008 was a celebration of the music of Willie Dixon, a wonderful return to the dynamic blues that lit up the debut Climax album in 1969; thus a full circle of sorts.
But this line-up of Climax Blues Band which had been together for over 15 years had carried the Climax flag in such a fashion, carving deeper the name into legendary blues status that Colin’s wishes for them to carry on only meant a brief absence from the scene in order to recruit.
In many ways the crime would have been for these quality musicians to call it a day and end the Climax Blues Band story.
